Long-distance hiking

Why someone running a 208-bed property voluntarily walks forty kilometres in a row on his days off.

A hostel never closes. There is no end of day when the building stands empty and everything waits – there is only the moment when somebody else takes the shift. Do that for years and you need an opposite.

Mine is walking long distances. Several days, one direction, one backpack. No rota, no booking platform, no question that has to be answered in the next twenty minutes. Only the decision whether to keep going.

It sounds like escapism but it is the opposite. Problems that look unsolvable in the business sort themselves out after thirty kilometres. Not because they get smaller, but because you stop thinking about seven of them at once.
